OUR HISTORY

We have a story to tell...

The Friends of St. Frances X. Cabrini, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed in 2004 to save the parish St. Frances X. Cabrini Scituate, which was officially closed by the Archdiocese on October 26, 2004.

It had been an 11 year and 7 month 24/7 vigil in a faith-filled journey for The Friends of St. Frances X. Cabrini. Sadly, we left our beloved church on May 30, 2016.  A church that the parishioners built, paid for and maintained through the years. A church that was filled with dedicated gifts from pews to stained glass windows. A church that resides on 30.3 acres of prime coastal realestate. A church that will be ravaged and destoryed.

Even so, The Friends of St. Frances will carry on as a Catholic Church community. Nothing changes in the way we feel or think or approach our faith.  We keep everything else that makes us who we are as a faith community. Losing our physical church building is bittersweet, but our hearts remain filled with great hope for the future and overflowing appreciation for all who have stood shoulder to shoulder with this us on this journey of faith.

From inception of the vigil, we promised two things: too exhaust every level of recourse, be it canonical or civil, and that we have done. The Friends of St. Frances are proud that we have brought these important issues all the way to the US Supreme Court and are confident that other parishes in similar closure situations will build on our shoulders to carry these matters forward to a successful decision in the Court.  The second promise was that the Friends of St. Frances X. Cabrini will stay together as a Catholic community and go on with or without the Archdiocese of Boston. We have transitioned into ‘The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church’, a Catholic church that is independent of the Archdiocese of Boston and the Roman Catholic Church.

The Friends of St. Frances is a Catholic church of change, speaking out for those who have no voice and standing up against injustice. We believe that actions speak louder than words. Eleven years and seven months of courageous, faith-filled, steadfast action is proof of that fact.  We have always, and will continue to do so, walk the walk by living on a daily basis our faith as Catholic Christians.

Thank you to our church members, donors and supporters for the outpouring of faith and generosity through the years.  We are forever grateful and welcome you to continue on with us, since you are the most valuable asset of our church community. God Bless!
